ABOUT ME
Dr. Khursheed is currently working as Assistant Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, King Khalid University, Abha, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Khursheed completed his undergraduate studies in chemical engineering in from Shivajirao S. Jondhale College of Engineering, University of Mumbai. Then, he moved to the Institute of Chemical Technology (Formerly known as UDCT), Mumbai, to pursue his postgraduate studies in chemical engineering. After obtaining master degree in chemical engineering in the year-2010 under the supervision of Professor Vilas G. Gaikar and he continued a doctoral degree in chemical engineering under the same guide. He received Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in the year-2015. Dr. Khursheed worked on several research areas during his master's and PhD research. During Master’s research, he worked on the adsorption of carbon dioxide on synthetic functionalized polymers and his doctoral research involved investigation of “Renewable biofuel from lignocellulosic and waste biomass” which utilized biomass pyrolysis technique to produce hydrocarbon-rich bio-oil from grasses and industrial wastes (i.e., Pressmud). Besides, he successfully implemented the hydrodynamic cavitation technique to improve petroleum crude oil characteristics as a part of collaborative research with BPCL, Mumbai, India. Dr. Khursheed holds expertise in (i) Pyrolysis of biomass with in-situ catalytic upgradation (or deoxygenation) of bio-oil compounds (ii) Hydrodynamic cavitation of crude oil (iii) Kinetic and mathematical modelling of complex reactions (iv) Separation of complex mixture using ASPEN simulation (v) Hydrotropic extraction of active compounds from biomass (vi) Adsorptive capture/separation of CO2 from gaseous mixture.
Dr. Khursheed holds eleven research publications (in reputed journals like IECR, Energy & Fuels, Chemical Engineering Science, Catalysis Science & Technology, Indian Chemical Engineer, Renewable Energy etc.) as an outcome of his research. Currently, four he has many more research papers are in the process of publication. He received two IIChE (Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers) awards for his best 2nd technical paper published in the Indian Chemical Engineer Journal, issue-2015. The award was present at Anna University in the year-2016.
Post PhD, he worked a petrochemical company named Fossil Liquid and Mineral Exim Pvt. Ltd., Wada, Maharashtra (India) (September 2014 to February 2016). The research activity comprised of bitumen oxidation, polymer-modified bitumen (using waste polyethylene and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles), Bituminous coating. Later, from June-2016 to October-2018, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Samir H. Mushrif (Currently Associate Professor at University of Alberta, Canada). His postdoctoral research involves an integrated experimental and theoretical approach to improve biomass pyrolysis technology.
